Leatherman Knives – Exciting New Products

Leatherman Tool Group has introduced two new folding knife lines, the Crater and Expanse.  Each series is made up of three products that have been designed to replace the existing c, e, k and h-series knives with improvements on the existing features and a more familiar look from model to model.

Handles, Weight and Size

The most obvious difference between the incoming and outgoing ranges is the handles and not just for cosmetic reasons.  Jason Carpenter, Product Manager at Leatherman in Portland, Oregon said of the new range “We had great features in our old knives, but the handles were so thick and bulky just to house them.  Our goal was to lighten up and slim down these new knives while keeping the existing functionality. We also wanted to make sure that they could be more easily identified as being a part of a family.”

The new handles on the Crater knives are solid black, 60% glass filled nylon. Expanse knives feature a combination black and silver handle made from 60% glass filled nylon and reinforced with stainless steel. By improving the handle scale/frame design, engineers were able to make them about 30% lighter and slimmer than their original counterparts.

Blades

Both the series feature 2.6 inch blades, (Crater models) and 3.1 inch blades (Expanse models). Crater series blades are cut from 420HC stainless steel and Expanse series from 154CM. Each knife comes with the option of a straight blade or a combination straight/serrated blade. The combination blade is indicated by an “x” in the model name.

Features

Both series have updated features from the original set of knives. Crater and Expanse series 33 models are all locking liner knives with improved Blade Launcher® technology for quick deployment. The 55 models are all lock back knives with thumb stud deployment. Across both series users will find features like bit drivers, fixed screwdrivers, bit storage in the handle and carabiners that fold away in the handle. All the knives feature a removable pocket clip.

Leatherman Crater Knives and Leatherman Expanse knives are available at Leatherman Store.   For detailed descriptions, comparison charts and information on the latest product releases, please call 0844 5678 123 or email sales@leatherman-store.co.uk.

Knife Sharpeners - Using Them The Right Way

Hunting

When you think about all the finishes you can use on your knife, you will be more careful about the choices you make when buying your new knives for your kitchen. There are a number of different types of finishes which are suitable for creating a unique look for your own knife design. When you are deciding for the type of finish you want, there are several very important issues you need to be aware of. {And with right|With good} Warthog sharpener, you can {make miracles|hit the home run}.

An inside finish is usually applied with the jeweled metal knives. You can see from outside the knife how beautiful knife will be with this finish. To promote certain projects, a file work finish is used to imprint the handle with the desired information, such as the name of a company. Knife won’t work any better with a finish, since that has only cosmetic importance to the blade. You will only change the apprearance of the knife with this technique.

One more finishing option we could use is a stonewash finish. From the moment they are bought, these knives will look old - that is their purpose. What’s making them look older, almost antique, is an abrasive design on them. These types of knives are very popular, since they look old from the start and can endure quite a lot. With good knife sharpener, its doable. This finish will hide any dull patches of the blade. To create a shiny look on your knife, use a scotchbrite finish and you will get it polished with the ability to stand the test of time.

Vibed finishing is just nother finishing option. With this, we can get a worn look on our knife, not as much as with stonewashed finish, but close. If you use polished knife finish, your blade will look great and will be good for show but it will also become damaged quite easily. Be careful about that at all times and you will be on a good path to have sharp knives in your home.

What Sharpener For A Hunting Knife

Hunting

If you have any experience as a hunter, you know that a hunting knife is ten times more difficult to work with when he gets dull. It’s important to be able to feel a change in the cutting pattern of your knife so you know when the blade is beginning to dull. If you posses this ability, it will be easy for you to figure out when your knife needs to be sharpened.

You can do exactly that, if you have the right tools, but you will need a lot more for this, not only stroll to the nearest store and buying some sharpening tool. To find the right material and product to buy for your hunting knife, you are gonna need some ingenuity. Diamond, ceramic sharpener and arkansas stoneare three main types of hunting knife sharpeners. Let’s take a look to see how each of these types can aid you in sharpening your hunting knife.

Arkansas Stone sharpeners are the most common type used among hunters and wilderness types today. Sharpeners like these are proven to work great for generations, and it is quite easy to find them. You will see that there re different grades of this stone, because it has different degrees of roughness.

To get a different sharpness of your knife, you need to use one grade over another. While many new-timers are looking to the newer sharpeners, many old school outdoors men consider Arkansas Stone sharpeners the best for their hunting knife.

Take a ceramic knife sharpener if you want to have something that is durable and lightweight in the same time. They are made of two ceramic rods on the sides and a big block of wood. Be aware that these knife sharpeners are very durable, but this is because they are used to finish off a blade of the hunting knife, instead of sharpening a blade that is very dull.

But, there are many hunting pocket knife sharpeners that can be carried on a trip to the woods since they are so small, they can help you restore the edge to your blade in case it gets a bit dull and needs sharpening.
