Babies Toddlers

The Bumbo Baby Sitter is a revolutionary new concept with world wide patent rights. The Bumbo Baby Sitter is an uniquely designed according to the baby’s posture to seat babies independently in an upright sitting position.

The Bumbo Baby Sitter enables a baby of 3-12 months to sit unaided, without the encumbrance of straps, belts or clips, depending on the individual development of the child, thereby providing a snug and cozy environment for your baby.

The Benefits of Bumbo Baby Sitter :

The bumbo baby sitter is a soft, comfortable chair that is molded to support his or her back and sides. It has passive restraints and works for babies from nine to 22 pounds.

The Bumbo Baby Sitter is manufactured to the highest safety standards from low-density foam material, which makes it lightweight and portable. It is soft and comfortable for the baby, safe, hygienic and non-toxic. The integral outer skin of the material is durable and easy to clean.

The Bumbo Baby Sitter is a chair which has a lower level for the baby’s bottom which enables your baby to sit comfortably and the snug leg openings keep your baby in place. The Bumbo is also very sturdy as it uses the baby’s weight to keep it in place.

The Bumbo Baby Sitter is versatile and is definitely the extra set of hands you have always been looking for – the perfect gift for that special occasion.

The award winning Bumbo Baby Sitter was introduced in 2002 and is used or has been used by more than one million families in the U.S. and about two million around the world.

The design of the Bumbo Baby Sitter enables babies to sit upright by themselves much earlier in their development and has countless health benefits. Best of all, the bumbo meets U.S. and international consumer safety standards, andBumbo considers your babies safety their number 1 priority.

The seat does not require any uncomfortable straps or fasteners. It gives a wonderfully new way to ensure maximum interaction and enjoyable communication with your child. Depending upon the individual development of the child, some babies will be able to climb out of the bumbo, so never leave your child unattended.

The Bumbo Baby Sitter comes in a range of colours, including pink, blue and aqua.

Prices vary from about $30 – $40 and they are available from all the usual stockists of baby equipment - Mothercare, Boots, Argos, John Lewis etc.

The Weakness of Bumbo Baby Sitter :

  1. The Bumbo Baby Sitter was uncomfortable. Much like a “One size fits all” type clothing item, it was more like “one size never fits right”. If it fit in the legs, the body part was too big, and when the body fit it was too tight in the legs.
  2. Babies who arch their backs while sitting in the Bumbo can flip out of the seat and land on their heads, a fall that could be deadly if the Bumbo is placed high on a table or countertop.

The Bumbo Baby Sitter recall

The Early Show consumer correspondent Susan Koeppen reports the Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced the voluntary recall of about a million Bumbo “Baby Sitter” Seats, made by Bumbo International of South Africa.

The recall was announced following 28 reports of children falling out of the seats that had been placed on tabletops. At least three skull fractures were reported.

The CPSC says, “If the seat is placed on a table, countertop, chair, or other elevated surface, young children can arch their backs, flip out of the Bumbo seat, and fall onto the floor, posing a risk of serious head injuries.”

The Guidance for using The Bumbo Baby Sitter :

  1. A baby’s spine should not be forced to support its own weight before it is capable. Later, when the baby can support itself, he or she should be learning balance and sitting.
  2. The Bumbo Baby Sitter is not to be used on high surfaces such as tables or countertops! Warning parents must keep the Bumbo on the floor.
  3. Likewise, it is important to remember that babies have been known to fall out of these chairs, and that it is VERY IMPORTANT to ALWAYS supervise the baby when in the Bumbo, and to always place the Bumbo on the floor (not on a high surface!)

If you are the proud owner of one of the One Million Bumbo Baby Sitter being recalled, you can contact Bumbo International, and get a free sticker. To put on the seat.

The Bumbo Baby Sitter safe to use if you follow the usage instructions properly.
