Now this is something shocking. The Indian Government, after a lot of urge, has banned invalid IMEI number for a mobile phone. For those who do not know what is IMEI number and the recent news about the ban that came as a disappointment among many users, IMEI is International Mobile Equipment Number which is a unique 15 or 17 number code given to every mobile phone. That is each mobile has a different IMEI number. The main function of IMEI number is that when a mobile phone is stolen or gets misplaced, cancelling the IMEI number makes the mobile dead.
The talks of ban have been going on for sometime and now the Government finally pulled the trigger.
The section that has been hit by this ban is the China phone users. China phones most often use invalid IMEI number. With the ban of wrong IMEI number, it becomes mandatory for one (china phone users) to verify and validate the IMEI number. Wait, the highlight comes here – over 20 million mobile phones became dead after illegal IMEI ban. That’s a huge number. It indeed is. This figure amounts to 10% of the total Indian mobile market. Something shocking is yet to come. The so called nice Spice Mobile D88n, the dual sim phone, is also in the illegal IMEI number class. To many it may be unbelievable. Since Spice mobile phones are from reputed manufacturing enterprises, this news may be be quite surprising.
All such users whose mobile phones have been dead are surely unhappy with this move, but if we look at all dimensions of it, this was a necessity.
