Despite the brand new latest Marvel movie X-men Origins: Wolverine garnering a bit of a negative critical response (not to mention a huge amount of anger from the hardcore comics diehards), the new Wolverine video game looks like it could be the most awesome superhero film tie-in-game in a ludicrously long time. Even with the movie playing with continuity big-time, the developers of the official X-men Origins: Wolverine video game have taken it upon themselves to get hold of the source material and come up with something excellent out of the whole mess. They’ve done a rather impressive job, too. The results are there for you all to play for yourself in the new Wolverine video game on the PS3, Xbox and Wii.
A Wolverine video game has never quite really been able to recreate the essence of the character that legions of comic book fans have loved for years. However, the official new X-men Origins: Wolverine video game does seem to get it right, which is very impressive seeing as the film itself appears to have been such a creative disaster. This could be a very rare event indeed- a licensed video game that is actually much better than the feature film it is based upon.
The first thing you may notice is the cool combat system the game offers. It does capture some of the gut-churning action that being the character of Wolverine would allow you. His mutant healing factor adds another dimension to events too, and it is great to see a mainstay of his comics and film persona done so well by the Wolverine video game writers. Logan’s attributes in this particular Wolverine video game constantly heal themselves as you get injured, but you’ll have to take cover and rejuvenate if your life energy reaches a dangerous level.
With progressively more intimidating adversaries to face throughout the game, it becomes an increasingly exciting experience the more you play the game. With impressive graphics and audio, it does throw you into the middle of the action, and with so many X-Men comic characters appearing throughout this Wolverine video game, there is a great deal to keep the fans thrilled. Another great feature of the game-play is the ability to focus on certain aspects of Wolverine’s heightened senses by using the control pad, helping you spot enemies, exits and more that you could otherwise miss.
As an overall game, the X-Men Origins: Wolverine video game is a huge success, giving you all the thrills of the Wolverine film with added elements that the movie lacks. With clear, beautiful visuals and thumping sound design, the game really gets you inside the character and his famous berserker rage, and is a more than welcome new addition to the list of Marvel related games.
